Overview

Fast, fun, and surprisingly frugal, the Audi A4 encapsulates all the things sports sedan buyers want. Add in standard all-wheel drive, and you have a car that can deal with virtually any road you send its way. The A4 shares its body design with larger Audi four-doors. That elegant theme continues inside, where high-end leather meets cutting-edge tech with genuinely luxurious results. It isn't as quick as some rivals, and the excellent automatic transmission can't quite match a true manual gearbox for driver feel. Still, the A4 is so good at so many things that many drivers won't find any compromises too compromising.

Trims and Pricing

Pricing for the Audi A4 starts at under $40,000, with three trim levels available to shoppers: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. You can also get the A4 in its sportier S Line variant, which takes one of the aforementioned trims and adds a stiffer suspension and other upgrades for the enthusiast driver.

The A4 comes well-equipped with amenities to compete with other luxury brands. The Premium model ($39,100) includes a pre-collision system, lane-departure warning, auto LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated mirrors, a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, tri-zone climate control, wood trim, a 10-speaker sound system, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

The mid-tier Premium Plus ($41,200) adds additional safety tech like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera, and an alarm. Other features include a hands-free trunk lid, memory driver's seat, heated steering wheel, and wireless device charging.

The top-of-the-line Prestige ($43,800) comes with navigation, a WiFi hotspot, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, adaptive cruise control, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heads-up display.

Engine and Performance

Like most other cars in Audi's lineup, the A4 comes standard with Quattro all-wheel drive, making it not only a better winter driver than its peers, but the extra traction also helps with traction in everyday cornering. Two engines are on offer, each denoted by a number. The 40 powertrain utilizes a 201-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine that returns up to 34 mpg on the highway. Shoppers can upgrade to the 45 setup, which comes with a 261-hp turbo-four that scores 31 mpg highway in EPA tests.
