  • What is MSRP?

MSRP stands for Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price, sometimes also known as the sticker price. Because this price is only a suggestion, a dealer can choose to sell a vehicle above—or, more often, below—MSRP.

  • What is Market Average?

Based on actual recent transactions other buyers have made, the Market Average shows you the average price others paid for vehicles similar to the one you want, while taking into account that most of these vehicles have different option combinations from the ones you specified.

  • Statewide, Regional, and National Data

If there are insufficient transactions in your area, we calculate your Market Average by gathering statewide, regional, or national data. Because this data can come from a large geographical area it may not be as representative of your local market.

2021 Ford Transit Connect Van Model Description

What's New Newly available 2.5-liter engine offers more power; Minor changes to optional technology

The Ford Transit Connect is an excellent choice for businesses and those needing to haul cargo in a small package. Affordable pricing and efficient powertrains help fleet customers keep their expenses low. The Transit benefits from Ford's standard driver safety technology and telematics for enhanced driver and pedestrian safety, along with a comfortable, modern interior layout. You can easily configure the vast cargo area to fit storage racks or metal cabinets for industrial trades, delivery, or catering services. The barebones cargo hold works well for hauling bulk items, too, though it doesn't have larger competitors' payload capacity.

Ford builds the Transit Cargo in two trim levels: XL and XLT. It rides on a front-wheel-drive platform, and buyers can choose an extended wheelbase for more cargo capacity. Ford also offers either rear symmetrical swing-out doors or a liftgate. The XL has a starting price of around $25,000, with many standard features for the money. It has four-wheel disc brakes, vinyl flooring, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, a backup camera, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, vinyl bucket seats, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, remote engine start, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker audio system. Stepping up to the XLT brings the price tag to roughly $27,500, including all of the features mentioned above. It also adds alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, fog lamps, power-folding mirrors, cloth seats, floor mats, cruise control, satellite radio, Sync 3 infotainment software, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Ford offers several optional features, including LED fog lights, parking sensors, and an electric windshield defroster to handle changing road conditions. Optional tech amenities not commonly found in a commercial van include dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, and navigation.

The Transit Connect uses a 2.0-liter gas four-cylinder engine, producing 162 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque, enough to carry two passengers and cargo around town. The EPA rates it at 25 mpg in mixed driving, which is excellent compared to larger vans. Payload capacity stands at around 1,500 lbs while towing is 2,000 lbs with the available Trailer Tow Package. Small exterior dimensions and a light curb weight help give the Transit Connect a car-like demeanor on the road. It is very maneuverable, perfect for getting in and out of city parking spaces. Ford also offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 169 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque. It doesn't increase the vehicle's payload or towing capacities, though fuel economy takes a hit at 22 mpg overall. Most drivers will be satisfied with the base engine.

The Transit Connect has a refined and comfortable cockpit for a driver and passenger. The cabin is airy and spacious, with excellent legroom and lateral space. The seats are comfortable during short trips, but the lack of padding can take a toll after long-distance hauls. Ford's materials and build quality surpass some competitors, and the Transit Connect feels modern. Driver safety aids are standard. The XLT's Sync 3 infotainment system is intuitive and comes with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality. This makes connecting a newer smartphone a breeze, and it opens up a wide range of multimedia options. Navigation is optional. Buyers can select from eight body styles to meet their business requirements. You can choose from swing-out rear doors or a liftgate with a built-in glass window. Both choices make access to the cargo area a breeze, and the cargo floor is flat for maximal loading space. Shoppers can equip the van with cargo area lighting and a composite bulkhead.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
