2021 Maserati Quattroporte Model Description

What's New New Trofeo trim debuts at the top of the lineup; Larger 10.1-inch infotainment display; All Quattroportes also add wireless phone charging

For eye-catching style and dynamic driving characteristics, the Maserati Quattroporte may be the best choice in its class. Its potent powertrain and swift handling give the large four-door sedan the reflexes of a smaller car, making it more fun to drive than most rivals. Its interior is still luxurious and capable of relaxing long-distance cruising, making it a superb dual-purpose vehicle. Cargo space is excellent, and Maserati doesn't cut corners on standard features. Several competitors have been redesigned recently, giving them the edge in high-tech amenities and luxury, but the Quattroporte remains the full-size sports sedan to beat.

The Italian automaker builds the full-size Quattroporte in one four-door body style. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available. Four trim levels are available: S, GranLusso, GranSport, and Trofeo. Pricing starts at around $102,500 for the S trim. It comes with a full suite of driver safety aids to help make every drive safer and decrease the chances of a collision occurring. There is also an adaptive suspension and limited-slip differential for giving drivers agile handling when it's time to have some fun. Other notable features are automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, a motion-activated trunk, leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote engine start, tri-zone climate control, a heated leather steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, navigation, a WiFi hotspot, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. For around $110,000, buyers can opt for the GranSport or GranLusso trims. Choosing the GranSport adds sportier styling, with 20-inch wheels and paddle shifters. The GranLusso keeps the traditional luxury styling, adding unique upholstery and ventilated front seats. Driving enthusiasts will want to check out the $142,500 Trofeo, which adds a more potent engine, a special Corsa driving mode, 21-inch wheels, and unique exterior styling cues.

Most Quattroportes are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 424 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque; it is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing impressive acceleration and speed. The EPA estimates it will return 16 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg highway. Stepping up to the Trofeo adds an exclusive twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 producing 580 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration is startlingly quick, and the V8 offers one of the best exhaust notes of any engine in the class. EPA figures dip to 13/20 mpg city/highway.

The Quattroporte's interior is similar to other modern Maserati's, elegantly balancing plush comfort with sportiness. It has been several years since a major redesign, and most rivals have seen full-scale updates to interior style and technology. Some of the small physical buttons look outdated compared to competitors' fully digital dashboards. There is excellent seating space in both rows, and Maserati offers a few gorgeous leather color schemes. The Quattroporte has a few rare standard features for its class, like a heated leather and wood steering wheel, rear USB charging ports, and Amazon Alexa. And few luxury sedans can match the Quattroporte's excellent cargo space, with 18.7 cubic feet of cargo room concealed under the sleek motion-activated trunk lid.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
