2021 Porsche 911 Model Description

What's New Newly available Python Green paint color; Minor changes to optional equipment

The Porsche 911 is one of the most exciting sports cars on the market and a legendary part of automotive history. Its distinctive silhouette and rear-engine design have garnered legions of fans during its decades in production. The latest generation of 911 includes all of the driving performance enthusiasts expect, plus the latest in-cabin technology and driver safety features. The 911 has risen in price over the years. However, it is still a bargain relative to other high-performance luxury cars on the market. Despite its limited practicality and restrictive price tag, the Porsche 911 remains a perennial favorite among those who love to drive.

Porsche offers the 911 Coupe in several trim levels: Carrera, the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, a sporty Carrera S, the 4S, the Turbo, and the all-powerful Turbo S. A Targa model features a removable roof panel for open-air enjoyment. Or, for ultimate wind-in-your-hair fun, a Cabriolet version of each trim is available at a $12,800 premium. Pricing for the Carrera starts at around $99,500. Mechanical highlights include four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, a limited-slip differential, and an adaptive suspension. The sleek body styling is matched by 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance run-flat tires. Other exterior details include automatic on/off LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, power heated mirrors, and parking sensors at the front and rear. Step inside the modern cabin, and you will find soft ambient lighting and two rows of leather-trimmed seats. The front sports seats are heated and power-adjustable. Leather envelopes the dashboard, doors, and steering wheel, too. Tasteful metal accents round out the upscale appeal. Tech amenities include keyless entry/ignition, dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, a 10.9-inch touchscreen with navigation, Bluetooth, a WiFi hotspot, eight audio speakers, and Apple CarPlay. The Carrera 4 and Targa 4 add all-wheel-drive to the mix, sending the engine’s power to all four wheels to improve stability in changing road conditions. This increases the MSRP to around $106,500 and $119,500, respectively. The Carrera S retails for $115,500, while the Carrera 4S costs roughly $122,500. These models have a more powerful engine, larger wheels, and subtle changes to the cabin. A Targa 4S is available for $135,500. The Turbo, for $171,000, adds significant mechanical upgrades to handle higher speeds along with yet more horsepower. Notable tech includes memory side mirrors, 14-way front seats, driver’s seat memory, and a Bose premium surround-sound system. The cabin also gets a full restyle with high-quality materials like a Race-Tex simulated suede headliner. The ultimate 911, the Turbo S, retails for around $203,500 before options. It has a 640-horsepower engine, 18-way adaptive front seats, carbon-ceramic brakes, and more. Porsche is well known for providing shoppers with various options to help them personalize the 911 to their discerning tastes. You can adjust several aspects of the car’s styling, performance, comfort, and technology during the buying process. There are dozens of interior leather color schemes, like Bordeaux Red, Mojave Beige, and Agave Green. The body also comes in many shades, or buyers can dream up a custom paint color. You can also adjust the color of the wheels, door sills, and seat belts. Several interior materials are available for things like the center console lid and trim inlays. The Premium Package bundles a few desirable options, like a surround-view camera, ventilated front seats, power-folding mirrors, lane-departure warning, and the Bose audio system. Other notable options are a heated steering wheel, a carbon-fiber roof, a Burmester surround-sound system, a sport exhaust system, and a sunroof.

Porsche offers four engine choices. All of them are mounted in the rear of the car for optimal weight distribution and handling. They are also all six-cylinder twin-turbos running on premium fuel, mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission, while a seven-speed manual transmission is available on non-Turbo models. The Carrera, Carrera 4, and Targa 4 all use a 3.0-liter six-cylinder motor that is twin-turbocharged to produce 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. It returns an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in everyday driving. Porsche notes the Carrera should accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds, on to a top track speed of 182 mph. The Carrera S, 4S, and Targa 4S employ a more potent version of this engine, generating 443 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The EPA expects this engine to get 20 mpg in mixed driving. The Carrera S has an estimated 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, with a 191-mph top track speed. The Turbo gets a special engine, a 3.8-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo making 572 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It returns an EPA 17 mpg combined. Equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, Porsche states the 911 Turbo can sprint to 60 mph in a remarkable 2.7 seconds. It has a 199-mph top track speed. At the top of the lineup, the Turbo S has an upgraded variant of the Turbo’s motor. It produces an astounding 640 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The EPA expects 17 mpg overall for this engine. Acceleration from 0-60 mph takes as little as 2.6 seconds, with a top track speed of 205 mph.

The 911’s cabin is just as sleek and elegant as the exterior styling. The dashboard and center console are large and modern, dominated by finely crafted metal toggle switches and an understated transmission lever. Housed inside the dashboard is Porsche’s widescreen infotainment system, which can be operated by touch. The 10.9-inch display includes Bluetooth for making phone calls and streaming music. It also has navigation, Apple CarPlay, and a wireless internet hotspot. Next to that screen, another set of displays sit behind the steering wheel. These serve as the gauge cluster, framing a mechanical tachometer. Like other Porsches, the 911’s interior feels sophisticated. Some buyers may have trouble getting used to all of the buttons and switches. In-cabin storage is adequate, with a locking glove box, small door bins, and a central covered storage area. One of the 911’s charms is its front luggage compartment, found beneath the hood. It contains 4.6 cubic feet of space, so drivers will want to pack light. The 911’s iconic body design gives the cabin an airy, open feel and excellent outward visibility. There is seating for four. Headroom and legroom are excellent up front, but rear legroom is too snug for adults to sit comfortably. The rear seats are best used as additional cargo space.

Have not been able to login to Porsche connect. Still a bit noisy. Need to improve app and Porsche connect experience. Something akin to Range Rover apps. Can remotely start your car and the electronic connection experience is a bit more swift.

The Starting Market Average is a proprietary mathematical calculation based on actual recent transactions. It provides a statistically accurate understanding of what other buyers are paying for the least expensive configuration of this vehicle. Adjustments to the calculation beyond make, model, and trim are normalized based on detailed, anonymized transaction information. This accounts for the fact that most or all recently-sold vehicles included different option combinations. The data underlying the Starting Market Average calculation are filtered for extreme outliers and subjected to a weighted averaging process that considers factors such as the recency of transactions and the timing of data lags. In certain instances, the calculated result is adjusted to take account of abrupt changes in the market that may not yet be fully reflected by recent transaction prices. In all cases where the Starting Market Average is shown there is sufficient sample size and transaction detail to be statistically reliable.
